About a month and half ago my PC burned out (bad Video card) and instead of dealing with the hassle of fixing it (it was a self built PC) I bought a mac.

Well last night I downloaded the beta version of VMware's virtualization program called Fusion that allows you to run virtualized machines. No big deal right?

Well my work gives me a laptop that is Windows and is a pain to lug back and forth to work. I use it at home to browse the corporate network and do my expense reports. Unfortunately you HAVE to use the pc in order to use the VPN client installed. VMware has this clever FREE utility called VMware Converter that allows you to take a hot running PC and convert it to a virtual computer. Cool right?

Well I used it to convert my work laptop into a virtual machine that can run on my mac! So cool ... if only my mac was a laptop I'd get rid of my work pc entirely ...

Nice thinking with the virtual machine. :good:

I've always been a PC person. The only time I've used macs was when I went to the regional library and they had some set up for internet access. They were okay, but kind of slow. There's no telling how old those machines were, though.

I've got a 2.4GHZ core2duo w/ 2Gigs of ram in my current mac ... it screams.

Even the VMware image I made runs fairly zippy.

Go with a mac, why hassle with a buggy PC.. especially a restrictive and locked down user vista. A mac will last longer and you will probably still be able to use it even years after a new model has come out.

Yea I've been extremly happy with my purchase thus far. More so now that I've figured how to browse my corporate intranet on my mac (Through the VM described above).

Negative.

By the same token that you say a mac will last longer, a PC will last even longer. Keep in mind the hardware components of a mac are very similar to that of a PC. To take it a step further, you don't need to by a new "model" with a PC. You customize it yourself. Want a new game that requires more? Get a new graphics card or RAM. Need more storage space? Buy a harddrive. It's simple. I've been using the same case and motherboard for awhile and simply expanding my components.

Not to mention, this whole idea about "buggy" and "virus infected" PC problems is bullshit, straight up. People just stereotype it. There are only two ways to get a virus on a PC. 1) Sharing files unprotected and 2) Porn. That's it. You don't even need a virus program on a PC if you veer away from those things. And even if you are involved with sharing files, a minor protection program is all that is necessary, normally freeware or shareware online.

And mac gaming? Nonexistant. Unless you pay 30-50 extra dollars for select games. Big con in my book.

And i'm sorry but pricewise, PC has a huge jump.

That is why I'm a PC person, along with so many other reasons. But macs are cool too. All my close friends have macs, i'm the only stronghold with the P to the C.

Peace.

Thats exactly why I bought a mac. I'm through with the whole PC customization and am sick and tired of troubleshoot stuff when things go wrong. Then there is the whole issue with drivers etc etc. With my MAC I know everything works and don't have to worry about the latest drivers being installed (Apple software update takes care of that for me).

I want something supported in case of a problem. While I could go with a DELL, IBM etc I felt like switching back ... they are in the same price range now anyways for comparable specs (well you could go with a ultra cheap off-brand but again I wanted support).

Ehh I don't care who you are windows slows down over time ... as you install and uninstall programs things get left behind. Every Windows box I've had needed a reinstall of windows at least once a year/year and a half for speed purposes.

Not so true anymore. With the new intel chips there are a lot more games available ... there is a clever company that provides a "wrapper" for PC game developers that allows their games to run on intel macs un-modified. A few games have taken advantage of it now but I expect more to as more and more people buy intel macs.
And i'm sorry but pricewise, PC has a huge jump.

It just boils down to preference. =]
I'm not trying to make enemies.

I love taking my computer apart and putting it back together. It's a rush of sorts. Something is wrong with my computer and I fix it without help, a great feeling. At this point in time, I cease to have problems with my computers because I have been self-disciplined to do it all myself.

So frankly, PC just fits me better. For lots of others, mac is the way to go. Mac is respectable, just not for me.

*Sidenote*: itunes is a piece of shit. IMO. m4a For The Damn Lose
