hi, i'm nate.
- 27, married (7years and goin strong!), one 4yr old daughter
- in 101 days i'll be out of the USAF!
- i'm a multi-instrumentalist. i primarily play guitar, drums and what has come to be known as the "noise machine": a pile of noisemakers chained together with various effects pedals and a loop sampler.
- i play drums in a band called IQEQ from Boise, Idaho.
- as a music lover and freelance writer for the Boise Weekly i've been fortunate to have devoured a pile of new music this last year. here's my favorites of 2007, it's not all exactly independent, but some is, and most embrace parts of the indie ethos:
Travis Morrison Hellfighters - All Y'all
Panda Bear - Person Pitch
The Black Angels - Passover
OK Jones - Elephantoms
Sigur Ros - Hvarf-Heim
Arthur & Yu - In Camera
Finn Riggins - A Soldier, A Saint, An Ocean Explorer
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice
Ned Evett - Middle of the Middle
Portugal. The Man - Church Mouth
Liars - Liars
Josh Ritter - The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter
i'm looking forward to continuing to turn over rocks to find bands that i'd otherwise never hear. this, to me is the best part. staying active in finding new stuff. like that Travis Morrison Hellfighters CD (which i think might still be streaming from their website if you're interested). that band just blew me away because i never would have imagined that particular combination of techniques and influences. in 2007, that album really solidified, for me, the fact that even if most of the new music you find is simply decent or pleasant enough to listen to a few times, keep looking and once in a while you'll feel the excitement you did when you were like 16 and found your first favorite band.
cool site. look forward to chatting it up.
nate
p.s. i slid into a curb on a snowy road today and most likely broke my front axle on my kia. this is two months after totalling my last vehicle. i suck, but somehow have reached a zen state regarding my crap luck. that is all.
