I just found out recently a friend's band from highschool ... The MGMT ... has signed with Columbia records. I am jelous that I never got to see them when they were still performing at their school but I never got a chance to make the road trip. While I don't feel this is really new to some of you .. I have yet to hear anyone of them on the college radio stations up here in the DC area. I am going to be catching my first live show of them this October on their tour with Of Montreal and can't wait.

Anyone see them live yet?

Well they only have a self titled EP at the moment with a few good songs (Kid's and Time to Pretend come to the top of my mind).

However a new CD is supposed to be released soon (called Oracular Spectacular) that I've heard some samples from and it sounds really really good.

Sweet deal!
What do they sound like?
Do they have a music myspace?
I'll look into getting their music, assuming it's on OiNK of course.
If not, i'll just have to wait till it comes around. =]

Yea both CD's (including the new one) are on Oink ... I think their myspace page is http://www.myspace.com/mgmt

Their music is hard to describe ... they started the band as joke and labeled themselves as 80's synth pop to make fun of cheesy 80's music and then people actually liked them. There stuff now is more concrete ... worth a listen.

If you can catch a show I would recommend it. While I have yet to see them live I've read their shows are very interesting ... props and such . Not to mention it's with Of Montreal which is a kick ass band anyways.

I'm trying to get a hold of them in order to give my first site interview :-) We shall see.

I just gave them a listen on myspace, I like the sound! Looks like they are in Chicago tonight and tomorrow. Love the road trip but am just not up for it this weekend.

Hope you are able to get ahold of them to bag that first site interview, that would really be great (for you and all of us!).

Lee
