in case you haven't heard, Pandora is the name of the internet radio site based off the Music Genome Project, a quantitative way to define types of music based on hundreds of attributes and match new music to songs you already like.

based on only a few artist and song inputs (sunny day real estate, radiohead, foo fighters) i have found some bands that i really like that i had never heard of.

cha cha check it out.

This is vaguely similar to Last.fm, if you guys know anything about that...

I've found almost all the off-color bands I enjoy using the similar music station and the intense cross-correlations that they've drawn up for every band compared to every band.

I'm using this Pandora thing right now and it's pretty tight. Thanks for mentioning it erik!

Whoa, it has the mini reviews of every song? That's intense. That alone is worth it. It just told me all about the Beatles song I wanted to play and then played a similar song and said why it was similar to the Beatles, including a description of key tonality.

SICK

I would highly recommend it. It has bios and histories of every band, sample songs of every band, comparisons to other bands, suggested bands judging by your most listened to bands, automatically generates your personal radio station by your most listened to music, generates a recommended songs radio station, keeps track of your most popular songs, albums, and bands week by week, month by month, and all time, it's free to join, includes a tagging program so you can tag songs and rate them into categories to help the community, you can find people you already know and meet new people with similar music tastes, gives a compatibility rating between you and every other user, creates an album "quilt" showing the covers of the latest albums you've been listening to on your dashboard page, background program runs when you want it to and automatically "scrobbles" the tracks you listen to on whatever player you use, has randomly generated radio station that are themed around a band or album of your choice, etc.

i had some time to kill. haha.

as for now, i'm really enjoying the information i get on pandora. but check out last.fm if you are interested. it's free and if you don't like it, just uninstall. my name on there is achievezen
