Strait from the Nine Inch Nails website:

"Hello everyone. I've waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate.

Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008.

Exciting times, indeed."

Interesting indeed. Did Radiohead start something?

What the hell?

Alright, let's sincerely place bets on the next band to drop label.

My money is on...........Fall Out Boy. They seem like the kind of moochers to pull that.

i still like NIN, and being a free agent can only make things better. they havent had anything revolutionary like Downward lately, but its hard to be revolutionary when you already started the revolution. With Teeth was good; the Fragile was good, but seemed more like 1 album of quality material squeezed into 2 discs. they are a band i can count on though - im pretty sure to like whatever they put out next. some bands are more of a gamble.

I'm not dissing NIN in any way. I respect them.

What i am bringing up is the fact they leave their label after radiohead supposedly left their's. And they aren't starting this breakout, unfortunately. They are following....

I consider many labels to work more in their interest than for the musicians. And I can understand why so many musicians want to try solve this and go on a separate way. Music is a business, but unfortunatelly sometimes the musicians are the ones to least earn from their efforts. in the end anyone is free to manage his career the best he can
