Hey GoodOmens,

I was just curious about the name of your site. What does 'Indie' stand for in this forum? What makes it 'Indie'? and what makes it stand out apart from 'everything independent'.

Look forward to your answer

Good question ...

Indie is short for "independent" and has a similiar meaning for both film and music (my two focuses for this site).

An independent film, or indie film, is usually a low-budget film that is produced by a small movie studio. Additionally, the term is used to describe less commercially-driven art films which differ markedly from the norms of plot-driven, mainstream classical Hollywood cinema.

Independent music, or indie music, is a term used to describe genres, scenes, subcultures, styles and other cultural attributes in music, characterized by their independence from major commercial record labels and their autonomous, do-it-yourself approach to recording and publishing.

I am a big fan of both sub cultures and want to use this site as a tool for myself to gain others opinions, suggestions etc on the matter. While it's not the only stuff I watch / listen to it seems to be the majority at the moment.

Hope that answers your question.

Thank you for sharing with us, the meaning of 'indie' in more depth

It always helps to know, I think this is a great opportunity to broaden the recognition of less commercial driven art films. I am sure there are many people out there, who would love to find a site like this to explore it further. And even if not many know, this is a great base to reach out to others and share knowledge. :D
