To those who haven't heard the Silversun Pickups, I think it's about time you got started.
The first song I heard of there's was "Well Thought Out Twinkles" off of the Carnavas album. At first, I wasn't impressed, since I 'heard' it while also 'seeing' it on mtvU. Eventually, the sound started to click and I downloaded Carnavas, one of the best music library decisions over the last few months. The immediate success on my ears of every single song on the album is pleasurably similar to Bloc Party's "Silent Alarm" album. Checkered floor drills you with some spike of emotion that comes swiftly following Well Thought Out Twinkles. And the songs just keep rolling and balling up this bring-along-for-the-ride album, all the way through the upbeat Common Reactor closer, which fades into an intense ride on electric distortion that leaves the silence afterwards amazingly quiet. The overall sound of the album tips on the edge of being a solid rock album and a laid back indie collection. I tend to lean towards the latter, but the percussion of Christopher Guanlao and the guitar of Brian Aubert can make my head swing. Not to mention the obvious lure of Brian Aubert's voice as well. Not as difficult to grasp as a voice such as Bob Dylan, but unique in the seemingly passionate edge he puts on every chorus and stanza. Carnavas is their only album, along with the EP Pikul that they released back in 2005. Regardless, I cannot wait for the next album to hit the stores. I gaurantee it will find the top of my playlists for some time.
Check out other reviews, such as rollingstone.com or any googled review site. You'll be surprised to find a slim amount of disrespect for a solid effort from the Silversun Pickups first album.

Great album ... one of my current favorite songs is Kissing Families of the Pikul EP and Carnavas ranks as one of my current favorite albums.

Nice review on a great album. I too recommend trying to find this CD if you don't already own it.

I only just recently downloaded Pikul and gave it a listen. My first impressions are good, but I find I need to listen to any given album or EP twice through before true judgement. I'll probably post my thoughts on the EP here in a bit. =] Good to know that you've listened to Silversun Pickups and feel similar.
My only issue now is finding a way to play that album and still get in listening time for my other 60GB of music... =D

Hey thanks for this review! You're right. It was about time I got started. Truly a great album. I didn't know them untill I saw your review, but I really like it. And i just found out that they are supporting "Kaiser Chiefs", right here in Copenhagen next thursday. So i am really looking forward to that. I'll have to get that EP before that.
